Fun facts.

1) The Corvette waas not built in 1983, in 82 they made style changes and had problems with the new C4 design so they skipped 1983 and began again in 84.

2) The Beach Boys song talked about a fuel injected Stingray.

3) The Corvette has been used at the Indy 500 more than any other pace car.

4) In a survey of car enthusiasts, the car most loved and desired by old car lovers is a 1963 Corvette Split Window coupe. By the way, they only built them for one year and then took the split window out in 1964.

I've been a Corvette fanatic for several years and owned a few. Here's some offbeat Corvette trivia for you.



The Corvette name is taken from a group of small British warships know as the 'Corvette Class'.



The body was originally slated to be built of aluminum, but that had to be altered to fiberglass due to an aluminum strike.



The Corvette emblem originally featured an American flag but it was discovered that it was against the law to use a representation of the flag in this way and the emblem was changed before production.



When the '56 model was introduced several people, especially racers, considered it unlucky because the grill had 13 vertical bars.



Sting Ray was two separate words until 1969 when it was changed to Stringray.



The LT-5 engine in the ZR-1 Corvette's was not built by GM. They were designed and built by Mercury Marine, a boat motor company.

Uh, the guy who said the 1985 Corvette was the worst one made must be thinking of another year. While not the greatest, the then-new "Tuned Port Injection" on the engine was a significantly improved over the 1984, and was the best-performing Corvette in years (relative to the time period). I drove a 1977 Vette once and while I still enjoyed the car, the 1985 was a performance improvement over those years!
