I have a '90 Camaro that will be taking a 1200 mile trip soon, and I think it needs to be tuned up- how much should I pay and what should I have done to the car?

In being as general as possible, your car would usually get a new distributor cap, rotor, sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, air filter, fuel filter, and PCV valve. Expect to pay anywhere from $300 to $500 depending on whether you live in a rural or metropolitan area and whether you chose premium brand name parts or 'cheapies' from overseas. There is also a procedure most shops can do called a fuel system cleaning which would clean your injectors and flush the carbon and deposits from your intake and combustion chambers which would add another $100 - $150 to the bill.

First thing I'd do, not knowing your area, is call the dealer to get an idea, they will be on the high side. Then if the cost is a factor, I'd call around to find a REPUTABLE shop, that tells you that they would do the same things the dealer told you that you needed, and quoted you a lower price. Luck.

if it runs good, have the brakes checked, fuel filter put in, tires checked and rotated, computer scanned for trouble codes, and an oil change...i'd do it for about $200 maybe less....good luck
