we do not have the factory key, but every time we go to start it , the truck starts, but only for a few seconds. the alarm light is on. we are pretty much positive it has to do with the alarm. we drove the truck before with this key, but then the trucks security light came on, and it wont run.

is there a way that you can trick the alarm, or reset it so it thinks this is the factory key. please help. we have a big snow storm coming and my other truck 4wd stopped working.
any suggestions will be helpful

The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

go down to the auto parts store and talk to them about the whine from the engine its got something to do with the plugs if IM no mistaken and as far as the battery and the alternator and te starter go down to an auto zone if you have one and see if they will test your starter the alternator and the battery for free. A weak alternator can sometimes not keep a good charge or a weak battery may not hold one. If you have a volt meter or a mustimeter check the voltage drop when the truck is turned off. Ig its below 12 volts there is a short somewhere.
