the story: I was driving back home from a friends house. I was on the freeway going at least 72 mph then my car's engine shut off. the battery light then oil light turned on engine was smoking from the hood. i pulled over right away. i put water in the place where u put the coolant and it was splashing out every time i tried to turn the car. the next mornin i checked to see if the battery was still alive at autozone but the battery was completly dead i bought a new one and installed it. once i turned on the car, water splashed from the coolant area.i dont know whats wrong with my car need help fast please.

Sounds like when you overheated the engine you blew a head gasket or a cracked engine block. The exhaust is blowing into the cooling system causing it to splash over.Sounds like the worst.

ok, the coolant area is called a radiator

you could have blown a head gasket from over heating(not enough water)

you also might not have had enough oil(you sad the oil light was on), which can quickly cause an over heat, and blow a head gasket



take the car to auto zone, theyll help you find the problem, sell you the replacement part, and help you install it, all right there, in the parking lot

Take the radiator cap off and crank the engine. If you see bubbles appear in the water, or if water comes surging out the radiator, it sounds as if you have a blown head gasket, or possibly a broken head bolt which is allowing engine compression to spill over into your cooling system. With aluminum heads, you cannot torque the bolts as with a cast iron head. These head bolts can break, as happened on my truck.



Best way to check this is a compression check. When running a compression check, you need to watch for the guage to slowly drop once it has reached max and you stop cranking the engine.



Since it was smoking from the engine, you also could have warped a cylinder head due to overheating.

sophie B may be on to something...all the warning light,s will come on when the engine cut,s off...now maybe...just maybe the thermostat went bad..causing the overheat situation...blowing coolant all over the place...& on your alternator belt...causing it to slip & stop charging...now when it overheated your computer shut you down & you tried [ in vein] to restart..causing your battery to discharge...now I don,t know how you got to auto zone but you replaced the battery & tried to start..coolant was still all around & when the fan started ,,you got splashed...now before you jump the gun & proclaim the head gasket blew..remove the thermostat , blow out all excess coolant from around the radiator & adjacent area,s , fill the cooling system , clean the belt,s & intake[ & air filter] then try again...if it still is giving you problem,s then do a compression test , cylinder leak down test , & pressure test your cooling system....it could be a head gasket , bad head or bolt , or cracked block...even a bad water pump...but try this first...could save you a bundle of cash...good luck!

battery completely dead? check your chargine system, have a mechanic check to see how many amps your alternator is capable of producing. as far as the coolant concern, i've seen this happen with vehicles at normal operating temperature, 220*, and then removing the cap without regard to the boiliing point of water under no pressure. i think the key here is the question....does your engine still turn over when you try to start it? don't answer that question until you have verified a good charged battery and a good starting system.

By your description it sounds like the engine blew a head gasket and is pumping cylinder pressure into the coolant passages forcing the coolant out the radiator cap.

don't know about your battery...but the coolant problem sounds like a stuck thermostat, causing the car to overheat...cure is replace thermostat...



if it is overheating get it fixed before it ruins the engine....
