I have a message re the above in my car. This happened before, and I changed the air filter, and that seemed to resolve the issue. It came back on this morning, and I have no idea, please note I have little, if any mechanic experience, but any help would be appreciated.

don't drive the car any more!!! you may do more harm, have it towed to a dealer as you might still have warranty on it and have them look at it. that message will come on when the ecm sets a code and it will put the engine in to what is called a limp mode it dose this as a way to try to save the engine or the catalytic converters because there is some thing wrong there are a number of different things that will do this with out more info it's hard to say what it is

best thing to do is have a pro look at it

I suggest you have it scanned for fault codes and if it happens to throw any fault codes related to the throttle then I suggest you check that the connector to the throttle position sensor on your accelerator pedal is dry and securely connected and also check that the connector to the throttle actuator motor on the throttle body is dry and securely connected, but especially the connector to the throttle position sensor on your accelerator pedal. Any problem there will cause the computer to shutdown the throttle actuator motor on the throttle body and trigger the Eng Pwr Reduced message. Given the recent weather across most of the country, freezing rain changing to snow and then frigid temperatures, I suspect a lot of people with vehicles having electronic throttle control are having the same problem. If moisture gets in that connector to the throttle position sensor on the accelerator pedal it can cause an intermittent connection if it corrodes or freezes and that throws the computer into a confused tizzy.

many times the decreased potential message comes on if there's a code for the throttle place sensor or the APP(Accelerator Pedal place) Sensor. as quickly as the decreased potential message pops up, it limits the quantity the throttle will open. in contrast to those idiots with the Toyotas that swore up & down the vehicle speeded up uncontrolled it somewhat is somewhat not likely & very uncommon, it kicks the vehicle right into a secure mode as a manner to speak merely proscribing gentle throttle application so as because of the fact of this you slightly are shifting. would desire to confirm what the codes are that are saved. you're able to desire to circulate on your community Autoparts save & have them seem up the code & sparkling it & see if it comes decrease back. If it comes decrease back, you're able to desire to have the dealership seem at it there will be an somewhat extreme danger you're growing to be to be various DTC's saved on your vehicle because of the battery voltage dropping under a definite threshold which will set a code in each module on your vehicle.

If you change the air filter before and it worked . Try changing the air filter sensor that might be located in the air filter canister . It shouldn't be very expensive and worth the try.

I agree with rabbit, have a professional look at it with proper diagnosis tool will save you money in the long run. Using the shotgun approach is very expensive (changing parts till you get it right) plus you must use scanner to get light to go out. Have a properly trained tech check it out
