Question:
How come '00-'05 Impalas and Monte Carlos don't come with STICK SHIFT, And why are they FWD instead of RWD?

How come not even SS models come with a manual transmissions?

Are not those performance cars So they should have manual trannies as an option

I can understand the Impalas but,The Monte Carlo is shaped like a NASCAR car why would they make them FWD?

Both SS models have a big V8, and American cars are usually DRAG orientated cars so FWD would not be the best drive train.

They were trying to combine some economical cars and some performance.

As far as why there's no stick option...well...why would you bother? If people wanted a 6-speed V8 car you had other vehicles in GM's lineup for that...granted they were RWD but still, you already had an option.

Also, GM doesn't make a strong FWD manual trans...GM would've been VERY foolish to R&D a manual trans for either of those cars when they wouldn't sell that much. Even if they sold a few grand of each car it wouldn't even come close to offsetting the cost of all of the R&D involved in creating such a set up.

The stick shift is not as popular as the auto tranny, but I do agree that it would have been a good option to go with the ss model- as far as being front wheel drive- they are much better on gas and there is far less power loss in a front wheel drive. And just because they used the Monte Carlo body look in Nascar doesn't mean the two have anything in common at all- I went to a school that taught Nascar fabrication and all the other aspects- the car makes they use in nascar are almost no different at all.

PART of the reason GM went belly-up. I used to drive Chevy EXCLUSIVELY up until they went all FWD.

STUPIDEST thing they could have done in my humble opinion.

THEN, they decided to revive the GTO using a Holden RWD platform. A GOOD performer. but looks too much like your grandfather's car for most people.

They tried to make the cars more economical.. I couldn't agree more. I would have a lot more respect for GM if they had some more performace operated cars that are more like their old ones.
